When using Murad Acne Complex how can you tell if your skin is experiencing irritation or is just purging?

The cleanser havent been that happy with the time.
My skin out like crazy and pimples come back lot of it is very strong so would not overuse some of it dries my skin out like crazy and pimples come back.
